I'm planning on getting a rip in my tunnel welded up, but have heard rumors that welding on a sled can fry your electrical. Is this true? If so what should or shouldn't I do? Thanks!

i dont think it would do anything. as long as all electrical wires were not near the weld while being done or while the weld is still hot i dont see a problem. just make sure anything that could get burnt or melted is not close while being done.

Ok.... I cant say for sure. But Im almost certain if your MIG/TIG and you have to ground the welder to the chassis you will have issues. Any type of gas welding you probably will be OK.
Because of the grounding I think I would remove as much of the electronic components as you have CDI box especially. I have seen it in race cars all the time, big dollar ignition components getting fried because they forgot to remove it

Shouldn't be an issue....My best friend is a welder and has welded several f7's and they are all fine.

I doubt it will hurt anything but to be sure unplug the ignition box from the harness.

Make sure that the grounding path is short and direct to the weld. Do not make the ground go through moving parts or wries. Ive welded on many sleds, cars, tractors, etc... . Do this and you will be fine.

Ground next to where you are welding
for extra safty you can remove you batery and unplug electronics but they should not be affected if you have a good ground

Welding will not hurt a thing on your sled. The ground wire required for welding will protect everything.

I am a journeyman welder and have worked at the trade for 6yrs. If your sled has a battery remove the cables and you will be fine. Another tip is to keep your welding ground cable as close to the area you will be welding as possible. This will help protect your electrical and reduce arc blow, giving you a better & much stronger weld. If you will be using oxy/acet to weld, the only concern you have is heat. Watch your wiring and weld a little at a time. Don't try to weld it all at once, weld a little and let it cool ( don't throw water on it!!) Let it cool down on its own. Welding a little at a time will reduce your heat buildup and will also reduce distortion produced by excess heat.
