Looking at an '02 800 xc edge x with 3891 miles for 2,995.00 - it looks to be in great condition, but is the price high for the mileage/year, etc?
also don't know much about the 800 edge...is it a good sled?
Thnx

I took a chance on mine and so far so good. I have heard of the crank issues, but I figure since 3 of my buddies have 02 or 03 800's, I figured I would chance it. Mine now has 6100 miles and runs great. I have heard of them breaking on 700's also, so if I were you, you could either take the chance, which Im thinking you'll be okay, or stay away from 700/800's polaris all together. The problem might be corrected with the new ones, but those take a lot more cash than 2500ish. You will hear people that had problems and people that havent- like everything you buy, you are taking a chance if its used. Good luck!

I would watch out for the 800's. I have an 03 800 that ran perfect with 2500 miles on it. As good measure I pulled the motor and split the case. I sent it off to SLP for the Tough Boy crank bearing update. They found my crank was shot. It would of been much worse if things would of started letting go. I love the sled, and since I stuck so much into the motor, I will be keeping it for some time yet.

The 800 crank deal is way overrated. I would guess 90% of them were high hp sled in the mtns where they run WOT all the time. There are lots of 800's that didn't throw their cookies and the ones that did, gave the good ones a bad name. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another 800. I've had mine for going on 3 years now and it's by far the best sled I've owned. It's just like the 900 fusion vibration. A couple of very small fixes and they are reliable as any other smaller sled.
$2995 is way too much. I paid $2000 for mine 3 years ago with 1500 miles in perfect shape other than the chaincase was slipping.
I need big jugs on my sled, cuz my girl doesn't.

wow, $2000 for a 3 year old sled.. I think thats a great deal bigrok. I would say the $2500 is a good price, but you would more than likely get it for $2700 if the guy budges. I picked mine up for almost $3000, but it has 136" rails, new track, SLP pipe, cheater heads, etc. Like I said, it has around 6000 miles right now, but the top was just gone through and is good. As for the crank, still waiting, but like BigRok says, all it takes is a few bad ones to make every single 800 a ticking time bomb. All I can offer is what has happened to me and the 3 others I ride with the same 800's. No problems (except normal sled issues), all cranks are fine. Knock on wood.....

Looking on E-Bay, seems like $2200 is more of the norm

I have 12000 miles on mine . Do the crank at 7500 miles because of the melting aluminium valve in the cylinder .
change the valves for stainless steel, cost less than a crank job .

Well I didn't see your location, but I live in Western, Ma/Southern VT area and sleds seem to be more expensive out here than up north and out towards the west. my bro has an '02 800 Edge with 3400 miles, and he paid 2995 this year. Previous owner always had it serviced used only polaris ves gold oil, w/91 octane and the sled has never given the old owner any problems..and this was all verified his buddy worked at the shop that sold it new, maintained and serviced it. I'd say get the history of the sled look at the overall condition and go for it. by the way if it helps my bros sled is a strong 9 out 10 w/ 136" ext and 1-1/2" track

yeah, thats the prices I was thinking also. Around Iowa, sleds sell for right at book value most of the time. Thats why I have to travel when I do want to buy something. Good luck
