Brother got his new sled and saw it for the first time tonight. He got studs. He was just going to have doubles put in but the dealer put singles in, and the dealer calls him and tells him he didn't have enough. Screw up #1. They already had drilled holes in it.

The pattern was double-single

(None on the outside)

The sales guy (from Spicers in Houghton Lake) where he got his sled from told him to use that pattern going Double-Single-Double in whatever pattern its called.

Well here is the pattern they gave...if you could call it a pattern...

Is it that bad?

I mean its not even really lined up

He paid over $250 for the extra studs and labor. I told him to go back tomorrow and show them and ask what the heck were they thinking. He showed them this pattern, had it circled and left it with the service manager. The SM even told him that they miscomunicated with his service guys. They fired all the old good guys and brought in all these new kids

And the SM at the dealer told him he didn't need tunnel protectors...

I think I would talk to them. If the studs were not installed correctly I wouldn't pay for the labor. Gonna hafta pay for the studs either way.

ya i dono it really doesnt look right.. Definitly NOTHING like the patern in the pic you posted.. That is definitely NOT a damn patter, on the right side of the track, i can see in differnt pics, 3 in a row of double backers then a single stud, but then in another pic i see 4 double backers in a row. definitly looks wrong..

Dude, that's a pretty horrible studding job.
Were the techs who studded it high or something? Seriously, get it taken care of or get a refund or something.

I admit it looks like SH!T but you don't want any of them to line up they are suppose to have their own scratch line, you get more traction that way.

Looks fine to me. It might not be a distinct pattern but it will certainly have a lot of scratch lines.

^^^ I agree. Dont worry about removing them and starting over, but if they arent what you asked for then I think you are entitled to some kind of price reduction.

I'd bitch...it's not what was promised. Yes it will work fine but I still wouldn't pay for incorrect labor. Would you pay for a seat cover that fit if it was the wrong color? And why no tunnel protectors? BS IMO

Looks like crap, but will function just fine, if not better than a lined-up stud pattern. The above poster mentioning scratch lines is correct.

looks bad, unbalanced, and i would hope you paid with a CC so you can dispute the charges. I'd even look into small claims court. they ruined your track and studs don't like being taken out and put back in much. thats like a $1000 f-job you got.
what sled is that on?

might as well saved the money and done it your self. I would def get some tunnel protectors before you use that. Trust me... I know about studs and exchangers. good luck with trying to get the dealer to give you a price break. I feel that you do deserve one!

Exactly my thoughts as well. Nothing wrong there. Doesn't look pretty but it will be completely fine.

This is not fine! Patterns are designed for 2 reasons, to ensure a certain number of scratch lines and to make sure the weight of the studs is evenly distributed. You have neither. Your track will not act like an unbalanced tire.

I agree, nothing wrong with the patern (if you can call it that). Sure it isn't what you wanted, but I'd run it without any concerns. The more studs that don't line up with others, the better. Looks like they followed somewhat of a pattern. 3 doubles on the right, 2 on the left, 3 on right, etc.

Spicers is a big, high volume dealer. Heard some good things about their shop. I can't see them totatly screwing something up. Is it the wrong pattern, yes. Is it a bad one, no.

that stud pattern cam from the inside of a cracker jack box. That would be like putting 2 ounces of weight on the inside of a car rim and none on the outside. Like stringcheese said out of balance.

first...drive the sled, see how it does period! yes it looks goofy, but it should still function properly.

Second, you dont need tunnel protectors, cant you guys see the coolers running above the windows on the track, those will act as your tunnel protectors.

third, it looks like a balanced pattern to me, there are 3 studs per lug. I think it will be fine. agreed its not what you asked for but it is a very good setup.

I purchase everything snowmobile related from spicers in Houghton lake, I have one salesman i deal with, and only one. He treats me right, doesnt beat around the bush, and is a stand up guy in my opinion. Their service dept leaves a little to be desired though. But since i do all my own wrenching, i have never had to deal with them except for a few warranty issues. If you bought the sled from them, go talk to the salesman that sold you the sled, see if he can do anything for you if you think you still want something done about the stud pattern.

I don't see it being that far out of balance. All the studs are down the center belt. Is it out of balance, yes if you split the track right down the center.

I've seen lots of sleds that have a pattern similar to this. Even ride with a couple of guys who are studded this way. Haven't had a single problem yet. Maybe it's causing more wear on the drive shaft bearings, who knows.

FYI: When balancing tire it is common practice to put weight only on one side of the tire, on each side of the rim at differnt spot around the tire. Unless you're using stick on weights in the center.

Turned out they didn't charge him labor after screwing up the first time

It was done down in Plymouth (down where he had other work done before hand)

2008 Polaris IQ 700 LX

Either way, even if he did get free labor due to their screw up, he didn't get the pattern he wanted

I know this has been posted but IMO the more scratches the better no matter how horrible it looks. These new guys either got lucky and it ended up with quite a few scratch lines or they knew what would be best.

If you cant fix it with duct tape, tylnol, or band aids your screwed.
