I just started my 83 Indy Trail up for the year and the sled smoked excessively, which it has never done before. I figured it may have been from just sitting, but after running for several minutes, I began to notice a liquid dripping from the exhaust pipe as well as the manifold gaskets. It is pure blue smoke that burns your lungs and throat, which has be oil. The pump has no mark to line up to check adjustment, but the jam nuts are tight and have not moved, so the adjustment hasn't changed recently. I have never heard of an oil pump injecting too much oil when the arm moves. I guess I am wondering if there is some way to troubleshoot it, some thing else (like a check valve) that could cause it, or if I should just replace the oil pump. It had a running problem last year where it would start and then stall after a few minutes. It has not done it yet since I started it.

Thanks.

Did you ride the sled or let it sit an idle? the smoke should stop after a few minites of riding. most sled smoke if they have been sitting for awile.

Yeah- Don't panic just yet. Ride it for a little while- preferably for some long stretches near WOT. It will most likly clear up. Mine always smokes big time the first start up of the season.
