yeah you gotta think they ve tried the idea. think of it the first to come out with one. my concern would be the weight of those batteries in an electric sled

What made you think about this topic all of the sudden?
And I've actually seen some cars that run on batteries turn some pretty amazing speeds considering

I dont see the point of a hybrid car or sled really. I was reading Popular Mechanics, and they compared the TDI Jetta(id love to have one) and a Pryius. The Pryius got better city economy, but the Jetta got better highway economy. And they said the Jetta was a lot nicer to drive, and more powerful. I just dont like hybrids, or ethanol. Although on youtube there is a vid of a diesel snowmobile that they are using for a emissions challenge.

electric motors make more power to weight then internal combustion motors. trails run on electric motors you know.

It would be just like autos, People still like their muscle (camaro, mustang, etc) but for someone who wants to just go ride with a group, put on a few miles, why not? They'll keep making both. To each it's own

^^^^Diesels are 2 strokes!^^^^
If you ask me the next real technology will be Hybrid. The engines will be Solar-Electric/Water-HydrOxy hybrids. I think they will suck. But they will be cheap to run. At least until we start running out of fresh water.
Another option will be ultralight one person full electric vehicles. Problems concurred will originate in our lack of electric power plants.
Hydrogen in a gas form is way to unstable for everyday use. No way we will be driving compressed gas hydrogen cars. One little leak and BOOM, bye bye grandma. Hydrogen pellets might surface as an additive to HydrOxy electric vehicles.
This is a cool new product http://www.horizonfuelcell.com/hobby_rc.htm
But honestly, once we tap americas resources the planet could forget for a long time. Especially with the world's technological leaders facing bankruptcy (foriegn and domestic). I wouldn't expect any giant advances in any engineering/manufacturing fields, like automobiles or snowmobiles, in the next few years.

I thought they were. I've never saw a diesel with valves or spark plugs. Then again I've only saw a couple diesels up close.
BTW
Happy New Year!
^^I'll have to learn from my friend Dusty. He owns a diesel performance shop. he did the tranny on the Bully Dog that featured on pinks. Hawk Diesels. i think his Mopar diesel runs 10sec quarters

its not a bad idea. ive seen a battery powered sports car lighter and faster than a Ferrari. and it could go about the same distance. some reason the electric motor mad a pretty sick sound when revved high. was preety sweet.

most diesels in trucks are four strokes. four stroke diesels have valves just like cars, but a two stroke one is like a snowmobile. Search Detroit diesel, older ones were two stroke, 3406 cat motor is four stroke.
I saw a electric dirt bike in a stuff mag. said the batts. lasted about one hour.

I think it is a possibility sometime in the near future that we could have low emission high mpg sled. The technology is defintaly there. The weight to power wouldnt really be an issue because with something like an electric motor there would power as soon as you wanted there would be no delay.

Yeah, id say 90% of the diesels on the road are four strokes, and they all have valves. One thing a diesel doesnt need is a timing system or spark plugs. But they have valves, such as the 12 valve first gen cummins, and the 24 valve cummins. The main downside i see to electric hybrids is keeping them charged and being able to go far.
Its still in early stages, but someday we might just have diesel snowmobiles on the trails. They would be tourqey sleds. But id say in 5 years sleds will be a lot cleaner and more efficient then they are now. Maybe hybrids.

i remember i saw on an episode of myth busters there was an electric street car, and they drag raced it against a formula. the electric took off way faster and finished first, but the formula had a much higher top speed. so if they were on a longer run the formula would have won
Bambi would have been a better and shorter movie if he was shot in the beginning with his mother

The dramatic fall in gas prices. Seams a bit suspicious like the ridicules price hikes the last couple years. Not to mention the corporate profiteering, but that's another subject. Nothing taken away from the cars, I've seen an electric VW do <6 seconds 0-60 mph.

I posted this back in May 2008
The cheapest prius you can get is 21,000 (taken from toyota.com.. the number was actually even slightly higher)
Doing the math (gallons/miles) My sister just got 36 mpg coming to visit me on the expressway. A prius doesn't even get you 10mpg better than that on the expressway so lets compare and assume the prius gets 46 on the expressway (which according to the prius forums isn't happening on the expressway).
Gas here is 3.90 a gallon at the moment (actually 3.99 in spots).
Price difference is 9,500 dollars. Question is, at the MPG listed above how long will it take a prius to make up that difference.
Difference is 10 mpg.
9,500 bucks buys her 2,345 gallons. That takes that cobalt over 84,400 miles.
The cobalt driver (my sister) SAVED 9,500 because she didn't buy a prius. With that money she can buy gas to go 84,400 miles.
If my sister drives 15,000 miles a year, she has to buy 416 gallons of gas at a cost of 1,622.
If a prius driver drives 15,000 miles a year, they would buy 326 gallons of gas at a cost of 1,271.
Savings - $351 dollars a year.
The prius cost 9,500 more.
9,500 cost difference / 351 savings a year = 27 years to make up difference
