had a 1994 XLT with over 10,000 miles and the engine wasnt touched, the kid I sold it to still hasnt blown it up! I also know a guy with a 1995 XLT and he put 17,000 miles on his before it blew. So I dont agree with your comment.

When you say blew up exactly what happen?

Always heard the 93-94 XLT where IRON strong! So what happen to the 95-early 97's with the crank problems!

yeah sounds like a nice sled. 8600 miles is a lot. if i were you i would plan on rebuilding that motor within the 10k mile mark. just to be prepared. i never knew a xlt to have more than 10k miles with no problem.

never really know how the internals look unless you tear it apart.

well then you are one of the lucky ones. and i dont agree with you so who cares. the guy wanted an opinion and i gave mine. so we had the same sled. probably the same motor. just happens to be that mine was defective and yours wasnt.

they made so many of the xlt's and they are known for their bearing failures. thats all im saying. 8600 is a lot of miles. doesnt take much to put miles on a sled. depends on what kind of rider you are and how well you take care of your machine. i wasnt the original owner of mine so i really dont know how it was used before i bought it.

heck i bought mine for $400 cause the guy wanted $1400 and someone stole the hood off of it and the ski's. it was chained to a phone pole in his front yard, so he gave me a deal.

i think for $1000 you will be getting a good deal. new studs, its clean, cover, and all the other stuff he had done to it.

after you buy it post some pics. i wanna see it

i had actualy two of these sleds. both were 94 xlt and the other was a xlt special. the one burnt up a bearing on the pto side of the engine and the motor ran like crap so i shut her down. after that i tore it apart and the bearings were fried. 4 bearings to be exact.

they had poor oiling for that outter bearing. they have threads on here about it, and how you can take your crank case and fix it to improve the oiling to the bearings.

the other one i had the xlt special snaped a belt and took out the pto side seal at WOT racing a polaris xcr 600. that one was piped, studded and was a rocket.

dont get me wrong, i like the xlts they are usualy really dependable and a decent sled to ride. i wish i had my tripples back, cause right now im stuck with my indy 500 and i miss that tripple power.

im currently working on my indy 650 motor so i will be bringing back the tripple i always wanted.

93 polaris indy xlt special & 88 polaris indy 650 race addition & a few old beaters

Have a 98 XLT SP, owned it brand new. This thing is solid at 6000 miles and doesn't miss a beat. I would take it anywhere. I have not had to wrench on it aside from normal maintenance. These are going for around 1200 bucks here. The aggressive body style is a bit much but I've become accustom to it over the years. One thing I can think of is the front torque arms on the X-tra 10's always crack. With that said, check the rear suspension.

Hey Perfectdrug316

Sounds great! I will have to become familar with Torque arms? Not sure what part of suspesnsion that is?

But glad to hear how soild the sled has been.. one question if you dont mind, can you offer any clutching and or jetting setup or experience? If you get a chance or time.
Thanks

To find out what it is, go here: http://www.babbittsonline.com/pages/part...fault.aspx

Select Polaris, 1998, xlt sp, then go to "front torque arm" diagram and thats your baby. It usually cracks down at the bottom where the outside rails connect. This isn't a huge deal, however it should be fixed if it's there. Both my X-10 had it cracked. Bought used ones for 65 bucks. Or you can have a good welder weld it back.

Anyways! As far as jetting, clutching? I haven't messed with any of that. Heard these engines are best left stock but I don't know if those two things will mess with the engine that much. A buddy of mine had his piped, clutched, jetted, and could not stop blowing his up (about every 100 miles!) This was the year before they fixed the oil feed to the crank though.
