Why did you replace both pistons in the first place? Did you fix the original problem that caused the rebuild? Are you sure the new pistons were installed right? Are they the right pistons?

Honestly, the first thing I thought of was that you put the pistons in backwards.

Something is wrong here because I find it hard to believe you got two bad pistons and they both broke the same and in a matter of minutes???? What brand pistons and were the cylinders freshened or at least checked?

Hard to give a proper diagnosis without seeing pics, but
sounds like both rings got hung up on the ports and ripped the top
off the pistons.

Pistons in correctly?
Ring end gap set properly?
Rings located on locator pins properly?

Throw up some pics, and give some more info.

Sounds like the pistons were installed backwards. Again why did you replace them in the first place?

Pistons were in backwards.... you always have to make sure that the 2 little pins that hold your rings from spining are on the intake side, not the exhaust. If you put them on the exhaust side.. your ring end gap will be directly in the path of the exhaust port, then as soon as your engine comes up to temperature, the ring ends expand into the port and catch... ripping everything apart.

Better luck next time.
