Hi, I just picked up a 1993 Yamaha Phazer II and took it for the first ride. Talk about scary, the steering locks up hard (with the skis turned)and occasionaly you have to get off and turn the skis. Anyone have a similar problem and what would be the fix? I already have a bit of steal in me from a prior accident, so a sled that doesn't steer isn't good.

Sounds like the steering components need to be greased.

Something must be bent, broken, or loose somewhere. Put a block under the belly pan so the skis are off the ground. Turn the skis and handlebars and look for the problem.

Check your steering shaft for a grease fitting. Besides jacking it up you could disconnect the ski's from the shaft where they all meet (usally only one bolt). That should tell you what's binding... skis' or shaft.

You really need to have a look for a broken strut tower, that is how my 88 reacted.

Yeah wonder about the strut being bent. Seems like it compresses a little bit and locks up. And it isn't that hard to bend one in a rollover.
