I have a 91 Yamaha Phazer I just picked up in the summer. It wouldn,t start so I put gas down the cylinders and it started right up and ran relatively good for a short time .I took the carbs off and clened them in which they were very clean as in no grime at all.It started right up ( with no pouring gas in the cylinders.I adjusted every thing back to close to where it was .Took it for a ride and it ran great for a about 30 klms and then it started running really rough and now it wont start again unless you put gas down the cylinder again then it konks out .I may have not adjusted the fuel mixture and or the throttle but they have to be close .Any help would be greatly appeciated as we got some great snow here right now in Ontario .I have no manual and cant find one at this time
thanks
Steve

Try checking all the fuel and oil lines for kinks.

Maybe time to rebuild the fuel pump? It's easy and cheap and probably a good thing to do anyway.

I thought about that as well but I have since burned 5 gallons of gas threw it and have just put 5 more gallons in it with some gas line antifreeze.I went to the Dealer this morning for a new fuel pump but he said the old one either works or doesn,t no in between so now I am going to check all my lines for cracks or loose connections
thanks

Have you checked gas tank ventilation? When it starts to die loosen the cap & see if it helps. I have a 91 Exciter that drove me nuts a few years back. It would quit after about 20 minuites of riding but it was getting too much fuel. Are you shure it's a fuel starving issue?

Somethings to check:

When you clean the carb there are a couple of tiny orifices in the throat that clogged on my phazer. They are in a row that get sequentially uncovered by the throttle plate as it opens. Very tiny. I had mine apart a couple of times before I noticed that they were even there. On mine it idled fine, almost died at mid throttle, and kicked butt at WOT. Guess which one was clogged. I was also suprized how much junk was in the float bowl.

I hate to ask but did you check for spark? Try the easy stuff first. The simple way to do this to get some help from a family member. Tell him to hold the plug wire with one hand and to ground the other. Anything less than a tirade of profanity is indicative of a weak ignition system.

Hope this helps.

I have checked all of the above I also just checked the compression and it looks like I will need a rebuild IT was 90 cyl in one and 30 in the other,I also checked for a bad head gasket but cant find a leak. Now I guess sleding is out for a while. Sad exspecially when we have record amounts of snow
thanks for all the help

I had the same problem with my 94 phazer. I purchased a new pump online for $20.00 and then I installed new fuel and oil lines. The next thing I did was purchase some Sea Foam and I installed it in the fuel and oil tanks (1 can per each tank). I ran it for about twenty minutes and it's running great now. it even idles perfectly.

I just took the heads off and the 1 cylinder was scored and both cylinders are fairly dry.I may have had the injector cable incorrectly adjusted..I am now taken them to be machined and looking for new pistons and rings
thanks

what may be happening if u havnt got it fixed alredy is you needle and seat valves arent seeting properly jets clogged this is definitaly and carb problem unless there is no fuel getting to the carbs witch would mean fuel pum or clogged fuel filter.there may be a filter inside the tank as well as outside
