i found this:
Quote
89Indy500 a friend of mine who use to owned a performance shop took a 500 motor and tried to blow it up on the dyno. He tried a number of different pipe combos and none of them worked very well. He did find out that if you cut 1 inch out of the stock pipe just before the Y pipe it gave the sled 5 hp. It takes a little to fit the pipe back in but it is cheap hp. Riley

I ran Aaen pipes on a few triples. A lot to be gained with trips. You will NOT gain anything on a 500 with any pipe(s) unless you modify the motor. The best you can do is to replace the y-pipe with a late 90s or cut 3/4", near the ball joint, out of the stocker you now haveand reweld it. Many people can tell you different but this was tested years ago and all you will get is a different (usually louder) sound. Most lost HP with aftermarket pipe(s) on the Fuji 500 (488) liquid

is it a good idea to do that ?

i use aaen twin pipes on a 500 fuji, i got 11hp gain on a dyno, but you have to know how to tweak the fuel and clutches to make it work. we spent many hours on the dyno to get that much power. also wiesco pistons realy help the pipes. but i hear what these guys say that you lose power if you just drop them in and expect instant power. it's not that easy.

I have one on my 400, but I don't think I have any pictures of it.
The one I have is the Trail Torquer. The idea behind it is to boost low and mid power, but some top speed is lost. On paper, it took my 62 and 1/2 horsepower engine to 65 horses, and changed the power curve. I'm not sure if it really did add hp, but it sure helped wake up the low and mid range.

Is the aaen pipe louder than stock and if so is it a lot louder?

i think he means cut a section out of the pipe right after the ball joint on the pipe and and reweld the ball joint back on, and your pipe will be 3/5 of an inch shorter.
