I've got 8.5" risers on mine. I like it more off trail for the leverage. Being so tall on trail is nice in twisties because I can comfortably stand to see what's around the next corner. Downfall is you'll need handgaurds, knuckles will get cold fast lol.
When hell freezes over I'll ride there too!!

I don't have a 8 but a 6.5 and I like being able to stand up with out hunching over. And yes hand guards, or a really tall windshield lol.

I went 9" its fun on the trail, the only time it sucks is when your on an ungroomed trail or making your own trail through the woods=tight fit.

Depends, if you like to sit on the trails for me its almost to high, or just about right, my throttle ends up at kind of a funny angle so its a little awkward at times. How tall are you? Do you stand a lot?

Tall bars on the trail sucks. You have to use your shoulders more to push the bars. However the leverage and comfort for off trail riding is well worth the tradeoff. I usually end up standing when riding trails. If you like to sit down a lot then high bars will only make your sled more difficult to handle. Trail sleds need nice low bars so you can sit and control your sled better. Ya dont see many crotch rockets with high bars do ya?

I have an 8 inch on my firecat. It great for off-trail and ok for trail. The best way to still control your sled with tall bars on the trail, is to stand. It does require more work to turn the sled when your on trail, and your arms may be sore the first few rides, but for off trail and ditch-banging, its almost a must.
What you could do, is start with the 6.5 riser. Thats what i did, and it was the very right height for trail/ off trail, about 50% of both. I have a 6.5 riser if you want it, just hit me with a PM .

I like my 2" plus iso vibe on my pro x and my 3" on my 440. No need to go any higher it works well in my area. The 440 also has a lower seat so no need to go higher.

100% agree. It is a tradeoff between on-trail and off trail. If you do alot of off-trail and ditchbanging they are worth it.

risers are good. but make sure you get them that can pivot up. if you just get a block, its gonna push you back on your seat, because the bars will be in your chest
take off your windshield, it'll make you go faster

Since we're on the subject, what does a guy have to do to get about a 4 in. riser on a stock indy 500... kills my back when I stand with the stock bars.

Probably a throttle cable extension, you may be able to get away without a brake extension.

Yes, riser of your choice, I would say some type of pivot, and a throttle cable extension. Before you order anything though, do what firecat said, clip some ties if any, see how much extra brake line you do have first.

Mjay has it right. Anything that raises your arms more then horzintal
on the trails is uncomfortable and not as efficent on the trails.
I'm a trail rider (first and foremost) and have experientmented with different levels.
As a trail rider, I'd rather be slitgly hunched off trail and be in total comfort on those 200mi plus trail day.s
I reject your reality and substitute my own.

You have the old black rubber brake line on that 500, and it will reach pretty well.
If memory serves correct, you are good for about 5 inches there.
The throttle cable is good for about 3 inches on your model.
Definately go straight up with a pivot riser.
It's just worlds better in the handeling department than being pushed to the back of the sled.

How much rise is that? I am 6' 4" as well and looking at putting on some risers, but seems like I need to go rediculously high...
