One of my wife`s co workers put my 1996 800 storm into a tree Friday.. Sled was mint before it happened with only 1800 miles.. damn near perfect condition.. Do I let this guy buy used parts or should I take it to a dealer to see and write what is all wrong with it ???

I say do whatever you want to do. He crashed it so he is obligated to pay for it. If the sled is near totalled, i would personally ask for the blue book value of the sled.

Man that sucks, i would try to get him to pay for most of it at least if not all. You would think he would try to bemore careful on a sled that wasn't his.

EXACTLY!!!!
That thing was mint. Take it to the dealer and have them write up a repair ticket. Give it to him with a bow on it. If he doesn't man up and pay, well, then he's not a man.

If he wont fess up and pay then a civil action should get his attention.........especialy if you have wittneses that saw him run it into a tree.

I agree with TNT, easiest way to bring this to a close. Did he borrow it or was did you let him take it for a quick ride? A 800cc Storm is ALOT of sled to let a novice try out, if that's the case I can't agree with the "He broke it. He BOUGHT it." You would be as much to blame.
Either way... good luck.

It doesn't matter how much sled it is, it's all in the riders common sense level. A 440 will get totaled just as fast when hitting a tree, and a moron will be going plenty fast to total the sled, no matter how much sled it is. The guys responsible for the damage, take it to small claims if need be.

Its all about what was said before the loan. If it was explained that you smash it you buy it, and you have witnesses....your in like flin. If there is no Police report or witnesses, its your word against his....
The neighbor kid gets mad every year because he wants to ride a sled of mine. I tell him when he can afford to buy it.....he can ride it.
