Well polaris fixed my sled after I blew the engine and I rode it for about 15 miles before it blew again. I am fed up with them and the sled. I am going to get a new sled with a warranty.
I am thinking mostly a Ski Doo. Something under 10k. Ideas? Is it worth it to upgrade to the 800 instead of the 600 with e tec?
I saw a guy with a new 2009 iq race sled, he said he bought it for $7700 brand new. Would that be reliable enough? Easy to get?
Basically i would like to hear what your opinion is on the new sleds.

what sled do you have now? what modifications have you made to the sled that could make it blow up? too lean maybe?

Hehe, thinking about a new Ski Doo because you blew the engine up on your Polaris. Have fun with having the same issues.... In all seriousness, as VStreeter asked, what do you have done to your sled? Have you done any modifications? How's your jetting? Did you break your engine in before ripping on it full out? There are many factors for blowing an engine up. What were u doing when yours went this time? The first time? If those are your mods in your sig: Did you jet it up a step for the pipe and airbox combo? Did you change your clip setting? etc. etc. etc

i have the pipe and can, airbox, clutching and other unrelated mods. The dealer went off of the recommended jetting by SLP. The sled is a 2006 600 RMK. It was broken in thousands of miles ago. I was riding normal nothing out of the ordinary when it blew both times. They are thinking a coolant issue because i fried my bearings and pistons.
I have my choices narrowed down to two. 2009 MXZ TNT 600 or 2009 600 Dragon Switchback?!?
I heard the dragons have been having some issues. is that true?

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!
My dragons both run strong as hell. I'd recommend spending the extra 7 or 8 hundred bucks and getting the 800. I had the dealer upgrade my track on my 800 (left the 600 at 1.25" but threw 96 picks in it) to an 1.5" ripsaw. I can stand it straight up and down in powder like it's nothing. I have a feeling they will have a recall or two on the motor just since it's a new design. BTW...they give you a two year warranty on the 8 since it is new. Only 1 year on the 6.
Good Luck....
You should have no problem staying around 10 grand on either sled.

I've heard of more issues out of new ski doos than new Polarises..... SkiDoos like to eat pistons. NOM NOM NOM
Your second engine failure was at 15 miles. Not quite broken in yet.... But if you weren't cranking on it, no reason it should have gone.

i mean the second engine failure was 15 miles after i got it back from polaris. so with the new pistons, bearings, etc. i suppose i didn't break it in since then.

the polaris 600 switch back is a great machine, and the 600 itself runs very strong, the 800 is a turd and is the only one with some issues. the 600's I dont know other than oil pump being a little rich havent had any troubles. save yourself 800 dollars for gas money and ride the 600.

basically pick a color you like. Every make and model sleds are going to have issues, and problems. If you really step back and think about the punishment these machines take it's pretty amazing how well they hold up. I personally love the look of the new IQ over the mxz's. but the Etec get's some great mpg's

I've been spending time on Doo Talk and Yamaha Forums trying to get feel for what people are saying and what some of the complaints are. The Etec'slooks pretty promising without alot of bitching.

O.K...Let's put the HP rating thing aside and pretend Polaris didn't screw up on the "actual" HP and it was rated at 147. At 147 the thing still rips. It's not a "turd". I've rode both. Have you ridden either madcow or are you just going off of what you read online? That would be the same as believing everything you read in the newspaper. If you had ridden both I'd bet you'd be telling him to go for the 800. No matter how you look at it, that sled is a powerhouse. The numbers may not be as high as other motors but I know I wouldn't trade mine for any other sled out there. Once you've rode both one after another you will know how substantial the difference really is.

From what I have heard and now seen I would seriously stay away from the 800 dragon. Check out my post in the link below. The only bad thing about the 800 IQ is the 800 engine.
Cheers

http://www.snowmobilefanatics.com/forum/...px#1000529Get the 800. With the fuel map finally right, you can't go wrong. No bog, no burn downs from the lean mid range, that was causing these motors to fail. Buy the 800. You will not regret it.

well i am pretty set on the dragon sp 600 with the 121. They are struggling at my dealership so the prices are great. The 800 doesn't fall within my price range. The TNT is still in the back of my head but i doubt i will get it.
How big is the difference between fuel injected and carbs? anyone have a rumble pack on theirs?
Basically if you have one i would just like to know about how it runs, pulls, handles, features you like, etc.
Thanks for all of the help deciding guys!

I just put a can on my 800 on tonight. I'm going riding tomorrow so I'll try to get some sound on here but it's just not the same as hearing it in person. Mine is made by Straight Line Performance (not starting line performance SLP). I started it when I put my sled in my truck and it had a nice low tone.

Rumors, sweet. I have an etec and it runs strong, love it and i dont regret buying it. The x packages are great, i mostly like how the etec is on gas, massive noticable difference.

yea i wasnt really happy with it when i first got it, but we've done A LOT of work to it and its set up soo good right now i would rather ride that than any other 600. just hit over 2000 miles and no issues other than handwarmers.

I have not read/heard of any owner complaints of engine failures. There have been a few owners that have gotten typlical 2 cycle MPG and Oil use (11 MPG and 400 miles to a gallon of oil). Ski Doo is investigating those.

heard the E-tecs are having issues with hoses popping off and extreem loss of coolant, guy in town just bought tripplet E-tecs, coolant loss on all three. And you get mountains of ice on the running boards to. On the positive side he said they pull relativly hard and the fuel milage is amazing

I like to hit the ditches and find fields. I trail ride enough to get rid of the RMK. Although i find that really boring. All that I enjoy is screwing around like jumping, carving, hitting drifts, waterskipping, sidehilling. The shocks are a big factor for me, i want something that can take some impact.
I just went for a test ride today on the Dragon. The throttle response was unbelieveable compared to carbs!!! I was very surprised and impressed. Ski Doo won't let me test ride theirs so that is basically a deal breaker.

If you are the boon docking type look into an Assualt!
Marriage is like playing cards,if you dont have a good partner you better have a good hand!!
