I'm starting this new thread to get some input for Yamaha users, preferably Phazer riders.

I am discussing buying a sled in the General section, but a lot of people advise me not to buy a Yamaha, especially not a Phazer.
But I have always been lucky with Yamaha, I have a Grizzly which is great, just bought a generator and had an outboard motor that was bullet proof, even owned a drum set that took some beating (pun intended). So I really like the brand and I did some research.

There are a lot of horror stories about the 2007, being the first year and all. I've been offered an old stock with only 2 miles on it. It's located at a Ford dealership, it didn't get any factory updates yet, but the assured me that they will do that. It comes with a big discount, but they are not offering any warranty. I have discussed Phazers in general terms with my local Yamaha dealer and they strongly advise me not to buy an 07. They might be somewhat biased, but I think they have good point. It doesn't feel right so I am thinking on passing on the 07.

The dealer offered me a new 2009 RTX, which is probably perfect for me, but there is hardly any discount (apart from a Yam incentive) and with all the sales slowing down, I am sure there is be a better deal out there.

I also located a 2008 RTX, also brand new. It has all the required updates and has been there for some time. I know that there is a discount, not sure how much exactly, but I am betting that they are willing to negotiate if I push it. The only thing is that I don't like the color much, it looks like a penguin that swallowed a grey skippyball.

So what to do? 07, 08, 09 or skip the Phazer altogether.

not that i have ridden a yamaha or owned one, but the xtx nytro "felt" the best.meaning that it is easy to stand up on, and easy to move around on. not to mention the bigger engine. id check out one of them, even though they are alot more. i think you should get whatever you want the first time, so you dont wind up spending more by getting another different sled in a year or 2.

1997 Indy 500 L/C, motor just rebuilt: runs good. lost the engine mount while riding and its not in the sled!
1995 ZR 580EFI: just needs the speedometer cable

Nice sled, I see you have upgraded the exhaust and closed the hole under the exhaust. Did you have any issues with starting, running hot, ice buildup etc..?

sorry about that^^^^

I have a 07 fx and have had alot of problems with it,blown secondary, chain, sprokets, rear shock,a-arms,spindles,and a-arm mount bracket, just to list a few.needless to say i am not impressed. When it was working right it was just a blast, great handling(it does have a big darting problem but with a switch of skis it loses all darting)the ergonomics for the sled are outstanding it feels so natural to stand up and ride. HOPE THAT HELPS SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS LOCK MY BUTTON JUST BROKE

So I had to go to my dealer and discussed alternatives. He suggested to try out a Vector, not new but second hand (to keep it within my budget). He is going to search for a 2005 RS Vector.

Any advice here, are there specific things I need to know about this sled?

my friend has a vector that i have rode for quite a few miles, although they are not very quick in any sense,it is a reliable, fun ride with a nice suspension.there handling is alright, although you can really feel the wieght in the tight corners.overall a great sled!
