Hi, I have a xc 500 edge 2001 VES who is thirsty.

The fuel milage is about 8 MPG under normal driving.
The needle clip is the middle position (stock)
The fuel mixture screw is about 1,5 turnt out från the bottom, also stock.

The plugs has nice colour..

When i bought the sled, the needle was lowered one clip, the consumtion was about 10 MPG.'
I changed to the standard position because i was worried it could be too lean.

Can really one position on the clip make 2 mpg difference on normal driving??

Today i was on a long trip together with my brother with slow speed on bumpy trails., he has a zr 500 2001, he made 11,5 MPG and I made 8 under exactly the same driving.

How is your carbs adjusted on your xc 500´s ??

Thanks for help.

what jets are you running if the clip was 1 down from center that would cause it to use more fuel not less..... remember depending where the clip is more fuel the lower the clip is from center the higher from the center the less fuel

I would be checking to make sure your mot over jetted good luck keep us posted

Mine needles are one clip from the top and I'm running 380 mains. I don't get that great gas mileage on mine not sure what exactly.

The clip was one step up from the middle when i bought it, then it used less fuel.

You can safely lean (raise) the needle 1 clip position and at least 1 size main jet smaller from factory specs. A Tempa Flow has been used by many on this sled as well, with guys getting 15+ mpg. If you do the the Tempa Flow leave the jetting stock and set the Tempa Flow for -30* F. A more aggressive secondary set-up helps as well.
