Just picked up a 93 500 EFI in nice shape for the miles on it. (4200) Ran it around for an hour or so and then the Batt light started flashing. Checked the battery voltage and it was at 11.8 shut off, and dropped to 11.3 when running (no matter what RPM), shut it off and the voltage would slowly increase back up to 11.8 or so. Drove it for another half hour and it started quitting as soon as you let the RPM drop off. Battery voltage is now down to 10.5.
Obviously its not charging, and I need to know where to start checking, not sure if its the voltage regulator or ???.
Connections all seem good.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

take a voltmeter and see what the voltage is coming into the regulator should be around 14 volts or better then check the output right at the regulator if you have 13 volts or better on the output side look from the v-reg to the battery for a wiring issue good luck and keep us posted good luck

Thanks for the quick reply, I'm pretty good at wrenching but when it comes to electrical my expertise ends at hooking up booster cables. Beyond that, things get kinda fuzzy. Is the v-reg and a rectifier the same thing?
Because I can't find a v-reg on the schematic, only a rectfier.

the recitifier and the regulator are indeed the same , on your sled this unit is also the ACS. There is a separate voltage regulator for the lighting circuit on your sled also which does not have anything to do with charging the battery. Do not confues the two. Download the 96-98 Polaris shop manual here. The tests for the charging system on page 4.5 will apply to your 93 EFI. The charge coil test specs are on 4.1
