i would change whenever it gets really wore down but as far as it breaking goes i wouldn't be too concerned.P.S. studs are said to shorten the life of a track

I guess if you are going to replace them every couple years, extend to a 144", then when you replace it you can send your old ones to me for a proper disposal
Haha, just kidding man, just keep an eye on it. If you see something that doesn't look right, tears, unusual wear, etc get it checked out, other than that they seem to last for quite some time if taken care of.

But if they do rip at high speeds, you can be in for a hell ride.

You just need to check the wear on them every once and a while. If the track is wearing out then change it out, but they can usually last for a long time. I'm coming up on 6000km on my stock 2002 Doo track. I may change it out this summer, but that's because I'd like a deeper lug. The track I have now is in nearly perfect shape.

I had 4000 on my old sled. Still had original track. Didnt have any rips or tears. So I would worry.

for one depends on the power of a machine and obviously the more power you put to the snow the more stress you put on the track , ohh and if you have a high power sled dont put a pre studded kimpex there crap my buddy put two on his xcr and the first one blew off with in the year and the second one blew off at a radar run on ice

Around 4000 miles on my 2.25" track and still looks good. Lugs have folded over a little, but none have ripped or broken. They arent even really worn down much. Usually only time you have to worry is if you hit something.

Where did you hear that the tracks break? If you stud the track, it'll wear out faster in my opinion. as the studs will grip and grab and wear the track faster then a plain rubber track. This is just my opinion. And that is why I do not stud my track. I ride a almost vintage 1990 polaris trail indy. I have owned it since new and I have finally gotten a new track last year. Why? you might ask. not because the track wore out but the cogs inside the track ( where the drive sprockets run the track) were wearing out from riding alot on the edge of the track lifting my skis off the trail. I have well over 6000 miles on the sled.
If you dont put fresh chain case oil in the chain case every year, you'll burn out those bearing faster then wearing a track out. I have replaced mine twice now and I make sure I change and replace that oil at the start of every year. Quote originally posted by 1999polaris700xcsp

I've only seeing 2 tracks break to this day and both where because the shock in the skid broke and punched threw the track.

Weve only had one of our tracks break. Dad was doing 70 or 80 on his 700 with the original track with studs. It blew apart, ripped up the rear bumper, rear of the seat, the snow flap, and his leather jacket. It tore through his coat, and part of his leather bibs but didnt hurt him. He still wears leather bibs but his coat, and a bunch of tools got stolen out of our shop when somebody cut through the fence. A kid had bought dads friends sled identical to his, was doing 102 through a corn field and it gernaded. The sled set for 2 or 3 years before they thought about fixing it. Other then those 2 incidents weve never had a problem with tracks, and mine has 6300 miles on it and is still in good shape.
