You mean making a stroker crank? You would also have to get either shorter rods or pistons if you did this. Can you just do a big bore instead? Carls cycle makes a stroker kit for polaris 600 twins,I have not seen any others though.

it all depends what youre trying to achieve, i doubt a stroker motor is what youre looking for. plus the cost is not cheap and usually requires many other motor mods.
and what the hell did you do to the sled in your avator? it looks bad ass but hows it handle?

I can't give away my secret as to what i will be doing with the motor, but i know what i am doing. i will post a forum about it when i am done with it. now as for my sled above. the whole front suspension is custom made. the shock mounts and so forth are completly made of aircraft billet aluminum and machined. the belly pan and tunnel aren't the same year. and the belly pan is not even close to being stock. THIS THING HANDLES BETTER THAN ANY NEW SLED!!!! my buddys have riden it and i rode theres and they didn't want to get off it.

Too bad it's illegal to use on most states trails...

Wrong.

thats just the definition of what they consider is a snowmobile. no were does it state that it can't exceed 48"s.

this is what i copied off the top of the page:

It's the Law—Definitions

definition means the following: "A definition is a statement of the meaning of a word or phrase." so what they were explaining is the meaning of what they consider a snowmobile.

hahahahaha. Are you serious?

Meaning; your snowmobile isn't legally considered a snowmobile in the state of Iowa. Thus, it is illegal to be used on the groomed snowmobile trails.

This really is just too easy. Weren't you the guy that said the Indy 650 motor only makes 75hp tops?

Do you mean machining down the journals? Where are you gonna find rods to fit a custom application like that? Most any machine shop can do it but I don't see it being worth the time and money you'll have in it by the time it's done for the power. I hope your really good a math too because it's gonna take some time and number crunching to make it all come together. Good luck though.

yes having them machined so it will have a little longer stroke. i can use the stock rods with no problems. it will just be custom pistons machined to work. i am just looking for a good shop that does snowmobile cranks and would be interested in doing a qauntity for me after doing 2-4 cranks first. i think i will need some luck. thanks!

when you do a stroker you also have to weld the ports smaller, the stroke motor will require the ports in a completely different spot, a stroker motor is not one you put a hundred miles on in a day.

i dont know f anyone running a stroker motor for a trail sled, almost always strictly a racing app. if youre gonna fork up the money id think anyone will build you the crank you want, but as said before dont forget to custom port work, usually cylinder shims are also needed, possibly ignition reprogramming. its not a cheap date.
as for people building cranks
HTG PSI SLP ive also heard of previously mentioned indy dan, flannery, thats just the couple i can come up with in a couplke seconds, the list can go on forever.

I don't understand what your talking about at all. The only way I know of to "stroke" a crank is to machine the journals smaller and that moves the rod to a different spot in the crank shaft there for stroking it. But then you have to use a different rod to fit the smaller journal of the crank If your moving the wrist pin in the piston that will also change the stroke. But that's not "stroking" the crank shaft, is it? I've never heard it said that way.

A two stroke crank can be stroked by slugging the original rod hole and then machining a new rod pin hole.
There are a few shops that specialize in this but a lot of other work goes into an application like this.
Port timing has to be readjusted and new pistons may be required to correct port timing and compression ratios.
A lot of calculating and two stroke knowledge is required to do make a stroked engine perform.
Along with the stroked crank you will also need a machine shop that can machine engine components such as cylinders heads and crankcase.
Experience in port grinding to correct port timing and pipe modifying.
Not a job for an amateur engine builder.
Good Luck on your project

Your still changing the rod and or piston right? The crank its self isn't changing.
