Well, my oldest brother and I went up to the Polaris shop to get some parts and they had a new white D8 with a 136" track. He's been wantind one so I co-signed for him to get it(he's got bad credit)Well, they put gas in it and got it all ready so we could test ride it. On the test ride the thing was sweet, lots of power, rode awesome. We brought home and went for ore first ride with it the next morning. We made it to the next town then the motor blew up, the clutch side piston had broke in half. Warranty covered it and it's getting a new motor right now, I don't blame Polaris I just thought I'd tell you about it.

Well at least it is a good sled with a warranty. Did Polaris have any recalls for what happened to the engine?

Looks like Polaris has developed another ticking time bomb 800cc twin.
This is about the sixth one I have heard of blowing up.

Boy, that chassis and suspension is great though!!

Just waiting too see how long it takes them to get their heads out of their asses!!

The dealer didn't say anything about a recall.

This is suprising to me. I have about 750 miles on mine and it's running strong. Sorry to hear that though. How was it broken in? I will say I took it very easy on mine for the first 100 miles before I started ripping it hard.

I'm sure you probably know this but since that motor is new you have a two year warranty on it. I also have a 09' 600 that only came with a 1 year warranty on it since it's a proven machine. I'm confident that they will get the bugs out. They sure are a good sled when running properly.

Good Luck

^^^Well, we weren't being real hard on it,I can't say it was ideal brake in running but We've never had a problem before in brake ins and between all my brothers and I we've had like 6 new Polaris. It was great till it blew though, lots of power all the way through.

So 6 out of how many thousands of sleds have blown up and its a ticking time bomb? Come on dude, think please.

Maybe if they made a new TRIPLE, those would be a godsend to the industry and would be indestructible!!!!!!

pretty much! i will bet you anything that if they made an 800 triple in that body with 150hp they would sell a lot more, to reasons the guys that leave them stock will have all the engine they want, the guys that look to the aftermarket wont be limited to a 170 hp mod motor, you would be able to build up to 300 hp on top of that, the aftermarket would go nuts building pipes and motor packages for that thing.

I bought a 07 switchback and put 400 miles on and the engine blew. Dealership replaced it under warranty. the problem was found to be when they preped it. the did not check the oil pump and it was set too low. Dealership then went out of buisness and now I have to drive hour and a half to new dealership. Have to classify this as S*&t happens.

^^^Yeah, pretty much. I don't know why it blew. Like I said before, I'm not mad a Polaris nor do I think that 800 twins are no good.

Check out the Polaris/IQ section over at HCS, There has been a ton of people with burned down dragon's, It seems like it's every other post. It's clear Polaris has issues with this motor. Lot's of people are having a problem with the mid range bog, the sled is to lean in the mid range and to rich on the top end, and there is a lot of people burning down cylinders also.

The latest re-flash has helped some including the sled i rode, but not a fix all solution, there is still a lot of people with the same problems after the re flash.

It's terrible Polaris cant get a new 9,000 dollar sled to run right from the factory, yet their 600 class is dominant and proven.

The Pro-Ride Chassis was developed to take a tripple, not the IQ.

There are EPA fuel map issues for all D8's and piston probelms for a certain batch. Warranty will be all good, hard to believe they withheld it last year for flatlanders to get bugs figured out.

The bottom line, it really shouldn't be the consumer that has to be the R&D for the manufacturer's these days. Pay $10k for a sled that sits in the shop for a month

I agree completely, it wont be long before even loyal Polaris owners will look for a different brand sled when they want something over 600cc.
