all I've done is mix the oil with the gas for a couple of tanks til the pump primes itself

I just went through this on an 85 SS 440. The manual says to remove the bleeder screw on the pump and pull over the motor without starting a few times until oil comes out of the hole. Replace the screw. Then start the engine and run at 2000 rpm for two minutes with the oil pump cable pulled to the wide open position at the carb. Even though yours is a differn't modle I would think it would be similar. On mine it is nearly impossible to reach the screw once the engine is installed. So I skipped this step (the pump was full of oil when I put it back on) and it seems to be working fine. Hope this helps.

I'm having the same issue.....The bleed screw on the oil pump is impossible to access with engine installed.
Anybody else have suggestions??

Does holding oil line wide open do the trick for sure?

I'd rather be safe then sorry

I would mix a gallon of gas with oil in the tank then pull the oil lines off the carb or intake where they inject it. Run the engine with the pump cable wide open until you get good solid flow from the pump for a minute or two. Then I would reattatch the oil lines and fill the tank with fresh straight gas. This should do it.

So far I have put three tanks of gas through the machine and all seems well. I keep checking the plugs to be sure there is enough oil.
