Newb here, just picked up a indy storm 800 sks. Never rode before and this sh*t is fast! For me, obviously never been on a sled. So what is the differance between a storm or a xcs 800? Gen II chassis is all I know between the two. My motor has 4500+ and seems to run good. Any links or info would be great.

Thanks in advance Jason

98 storm 98 xc 800.. 98 storm is what I think I have. At least that was what I was told! Its a triple Gen II chassis I know for sure... Like I said Ive got ten minutes experiance so far with a sled. Traded a toyota pickup on a whim for it...

This is a 96 storm, if yours looks like this its an aggressive chassis, not a GenII, I didn't see a 98 storm 800 sks on this site.
http://www.polarisman.com/site/DisplayMo...&Year=2001
And this is the oldest xc800, an edge chassis.

My bad, your right aggresive chassis! I dont know why I was thinking Gen II? Looks like Storm was changed to XC in 99.. Thanks for the link to Polarisman, answered my question..

I think the xc was there already, I don't know if the storm was changed or just dropped.

My brother has a 96 Storm SKS and I can tell you from riding it for many miles....it's a fun sled, fast but fun! Once you're used to riding it you can do a search on here and find some really good upgrade suggestions for the sled.

All I can say is HAVE FUN!

VES? I read something about it. Exhaust valve versus reed valves? Im assuming, googleing te storm 800 turns up more results for xcr. Is that the differance between the two?

No the reed valves are between the carb and the motor, the VES is on the exhaust side on top, kinda pod looking things.

The XCR 800 motor is a whole different monster than the Storm 800. Xcr is based off the Ultra 680(or XCR 700) motor. Has the VES and flatslide carbs and about 12hp more.

Just for clarity here the XCR has the higher HP rating, correct?

Careful jumping that storm , my friend has one, and it's got pretty limited rear suspension. THey are great drag sleds, fast as a SOB, so enjoy and congrats.
