A couple of days ago, my 99 sks 700 twin started to overheat. THe temp light came on, and i heard a ticking sound coming from the engine. The faster i went, the faster the ticking went. I pulled the spark plugs, and they were super hot. THe anti-freeze is still three-quarters full. THe sled performs as good as normal also.
It was not all that warm out, and i was in semi-deep snow.
Please help me out, im pretty worried about this. What is the problem? What is this? What price are we talking about here? I just spent 350 dollars on the whole left front suspension- trailing arm, pinion arm, etc., so im kinda worried. Let me know everything you can!
thanks alot,

Not, really, i guess it could be the clutch, but would that make the temp light come on?

the temp light couldve been cause of the semi deep snow that you were in... and the clutch not working perfectly could make the engine run hot.

What do the plugs look like now? Is it still ticking? A friend of mine did this once, temp light came on, engine started knocking. He shut it down and after it cooled off it seemed to be ok. After that incident though, the sled overheated much easier than before, and he did eventually melt it down.

No it still ticks, still overheats, and Get this
Me and my friend pulled that sled APART! nothing found- no clutch problems, pistons aare fine, cylinders fine-ARGH!!!!!!!!
I was told it could be the water pump, which would explain the overheating.
Yesterday, after we put it all back together, i drove it around, after ONE MINUTE OF RIDING, it started to overheat-light came on, and my ehaust pipe under the hood started to smoke a ton.
WHAT THE F*CK!!!!!
help me out guys, im kinda frustrated.

open the mag side of the engine where the starting cord enter, check the pump belt.
this belt control the oil pump and the water pump. You have to change it after 8000 miles.
if this belt is not working, big problem in perspective, because of the lack of oil in the engine.
this kind of dammage explain everything, the temp light and the clicing sound.

not the drive belt, the pump belt. don't have to be tight or loose, just has to be there. if the belt are broken you have a problem and it's the reason the temp light came on and you have a clicing sound, if not you could replace it if you have a lot of miles, but it's not the cause of your problem.

If its overheating, start to know if the coolant is moving in the engine. be sure that you water pump work great and check if you termostat is openning (if equipped). you can remove the thermostat and give another try.
