03 F7 stud though heat exchanger - what's the fix started by crofty

my bud had a track come apart on him and one of the studs hit the H/E pretyy good .I don't think it's savable .what should he try?

I'd remove it and bring it to a shop that can weld aluminum. See if the can weld a patch on it, then flush it out good and leak test it.

Which H/E was it? They arent that difficult to remove(the rear ones anyway) and you can pick up a replacement off Ebay pretty reasonable.

See if it can be welded then leak test it. Make sure your system has no air in it when you refill it or you'll just burn it up.

i put a stud threw my heat exchanger about 4 weekends ago in my sabercat witch has the same exchanger i took it out and brought it into work cleaned it out real well and the boys at work welded it up for me pressure tested it and its still holding up no leaks knock on wood... wasnt the easyest thing to weld we chased pin holes for a wile alumnum is not the easyest thing to weld we found it hard to get the metal clean enough with out removing to much material ...
