striped a bolt!
- now how can i get it off?

i was working on one of my junkers... (1993 AC lynx 340, with a wicked tunnel) anyway... i was working on it and a bolt it all most completely striped... so, any one have an idea of how to get it off?
take off your windshield, it'll make you go faster

depends on the bolt if it has alot of pressure on it that sucks but anyway get a vice grips and pull as hard as you can wile unthreading sometimes it works for me

its on there pretty tight... it seems like a soft material that its made out of...
take off your windshield, it'll make you go faster

ya vise grips work good just get them nice and tight on the first try so you dont completly strip it

there is a a socket you can buy to get off rounded bolts , another idea is to weld another bolt head on but only effective if there is enough room to get at it

yeah welding another bolt head would probably be the best way to go..in case you have to you could always just drill the bolt out, then youll probably have to go through and re-thread or tap the hole afterwards, thats always worked for me.

another good thing to do is beat the bolt with a hammer ,losens it for one and some times will swell it up enough the socket will catch on it ,some times a chisel will work magic on them also

yah we have even drilled a hole down the middle of the bolt then taped it with reverse thread and put a new hard steal bolt , but for this it has to be a good sized bolt and assuming you have a clear path to the bolt

for screws i know they make a bit thing that you drill a hole thing in the head of it then use this speical bit to get it out......
YAY! i got the bolt off... the vice-grip did the job...

i saw that too but who knows about info-mercial type things...
the thing for the screws is called an Ez Out, they work great. and next time you should use a small pipe wrench instead of vise grips, it bites better and usually gives you more levredge.
