when i was 12 i was hoping between my 340 sport and my moms xcf 440. thats all you need at that age, yea going fast is fun but learning is far better, and yea ive been riding for 6 years, i started riding fourwheelers and kittycats when i was 5-6 so yea i had experience, then dad got his new 800 and hadded me his 98 xc 700 becouse we couldnt afford to buy another sled for me cuz we were at 3 sled and he liked it, well at 15 a piped xc 700 is to much, sounded awsome but scared the crap out of me, hit a rock doing 70 that was it! sold it, plus it blew up 2 times. i then bought a 00 xc 500 and put a can for some noise, jetted, clutched and geared and i was outrunning 600 skidoos, i was happy, only prob was suspension was sezied, rode it for 3 years then bought my proxr 800, didnt want anything more that a 6 or 700 but this was a deal and the dealer wanted to get rid of it plus dad worked for them. so if i was you ride what you got and if you must get a new buy a 500 and do some clutch work and gearing and it will make the sled alot more fun, i take pride in running a sled that i worked on and can outrun bigger sleds with a smaller motor. so look for a skidoo 440-600 tops and you will be happy.

04 Pro XR 800- slp can, vforce3, chrome windsheild, carbon fiber front bumper, diamond plate skidplate,
97 XCR 440- vforce delta reads, 1.25 xforce track, m-10 suspension, clutched, geared, 2 in bar risor, new windshield

i started riding at 4 on an indy 500 rode that tell 12 I bought the v-max 600, rode that and our indy 440 tell 15, bought the viper 700 sold that after 2 months and bought the 440, then the 600 mod, and now the sno pro 600. All you need is a 600 unless your in the deep stuff.

Owning a race sled is like having a totally hot girlfriend..... All of your friends want to see it, feel it and check it out..... They all want to know what it is like to ride it, but if they only knew how much time and money it takes to keep one up, they would call you a fool!

I'm 14 and last year i had a 1986 ski-doo 500 and this year my dad found me a 2002 polaris xc sp 800, so save your money and keep looking i bet youll find a great deal.

I'm sorry but I truly don't think even a 14 year old needs to have that large of a sled.

i think your age dont say **** about your riding abilities(plus i weigh over 200 lbs so i need a big sled). so if i was u id save your money buy a newer sled and modifiy.

zx chassis 500 or 600 would be a good upgrade for that price range imo

if you do get a bigger sled there are ways of making it more controlable and slower so its safer for a younger rider that really doesn't have the physical ability or weight to throw an 800 or 700 around.with a bigger machine comes a lot more respect for your right thumb. yeah its cool to fly down a lake at 100+ but honesty trying to keep up with the people you use to ride with on your smaller sled is going to be much more difficult with a larger sled like a 700 or 800. all it takes is respect for your machine and not pushing your ability's to the max with a big sled. im know im not your father but hey advise is always good to come on.

At 13 i was over 6" tall. Ive always had dirtbikes and fourwheelers and my first sled was a 94 polaris storm(800cc). My dad put a throttle block on it and that restricted me to not even half throttle. Each ride we went out on, if he saw improvement, he would give me more throttle until i was carving and riding good, then he gave me WOT. I dont think age justifys "what cc sled you should have". I mean there are 14-16 year olds racing snow-x. Its all about learning your sled and your limits on that sled. Any newer sled is quick and can kill you from a 440fan up to a 800triple.

How old do you have to be to be a member of this site again? I realize the kid has a legit question, but I thought it was older.

I agree with 650rxl that it deffinately isn't age but skill level on what size sled you should be riding. And like i said before 440's go fast and pull hard. Actually I started on a 500 and moved down to a 440 that pulls harder and goes faster, so it doesn't even matter much about the size of the engine either. thats just my .02

when i was 12 i got a 1996 ac 600 triple but like others i only could go so fast with that throttle block. and today i have a 2000 ac 600 tripple and i still think its to fast somtimes but i dont hold it WOT i go and enjoy myself. my dad is 36 years old and rides a indy 500 and wont give it up bc we arnt out for speed.

please ride safe and dont hold it W.O.T

probably look at a 440 cat...plenty fast for a 12 year old.

Yep, quite honestly, a 440 sled of ANY brand is PLENTY fast for a 12 year old. Honestly, in my opinion, it's too much, but that's their parents responsibility... A 340 would be perfectly fine for any 12 year old.

I have a younger brother than I, and he is 13. He just got a 1995 Indy Sport 440. It's plenty of sled for him. He has a blast on it and plans to save his money up so that in a FEW MORE YEARS he can upgrade himself to a bigger sled - like a 600 or so. That's perfectly fine, because he has good mentors and a good head on his shoulders.

Bravo to all you younger guys out there that have the "brains" to know what size sled is reasonable for your age. I'm very happy to hear that not all of today's youth are speed happy, know-it-all, mouthy, testosterone driven, young jackasses.

Remember guys, you want to have fun out there!
You do NOT want to kill yourself on a sled and become just another statistic! Learn from guys that have been there. I have friends that have died, I even brushed death myself a time or two and now have the permanent body ailments to prove it. Was it worth it? NOPE.

I'm lucky enough to still be able to ride. I currently own a 2001 Edge Classic 600 with all of the bells and whistles. I also own a 2003 "sicko" sled... A ProX-R 800, fully modded, mogul mashing monster. (Old habits die hard - LOL!) I'm also not a little kid anymore - 33 yrs old.

BE CAREFUL OUT THERE AND ENJOY, cause you only live once!

I agree, I'm 13 and the sled that is "mine" is a 1989 MXLT...it didn't run much this last season though. So I rode my mom's Formula SL 500. Plenty of sled and lots of fun for someone my age...I love to go fast and all the other excitements snowmobiling can have, but I won't even dare trying my dad's MXZ 600...to much.
