Its normal for the oil to have very tiny shavings in there. That oil gets so dirty anyways, i wouldn't worry about the shavings if you really arent collecting anything on the magnet especially. However, if your getting a vibration, check track tension and the easy things first before tearing apart the chaincase or driveshaft to replace the bearings. If everything seems to check out, replace the bearings as a safety measure.

Always metal in the chaincase, always. Thats the main reason the magnet is there.

Idler wheel bearings?? I know I had a vib issue and thats what mine was.

When you changed the lube did you take the chain and gears out to look at them? Check your chain tension. Look for snow/ice in the track. If everything seems right, then I would pull the chaincase cover and see where "chunks of metal" are coming from. Shavings are normal, "chunks" are not. If you had the chain and gears out, you may not have gotten them torqued down properly or forgotten a spacer behind the gears. It should be pretty obvious once you pull the cover where the metal is coming from.

Just wondering if you had found out where the chunks were coming from? Let us know.
