Its never good to here of these things.

I think we are hearing about more accidents this year as we have alot more snow, than the last couple years.

The wife only bought me the sled, so that she can get one this year :( Guess I have to get her one.

I too think it's because of the power of today's sleds, with younger or inexpierence riders, and especially having to do with showing off.

Probably that and other factors. I followed a couple young lads today (skipping school). They were the only ones I met on the trails today. I broke trail and backtracked several times and other than them, mine were the only tracks. The section of trail they were on (and this was after I had broken trail through there once) was totally obliterated. Going up on banks on corners where someone coming the other way could not see them coming back on the trail was pretty typical. Have fun boon docking or what ever, just don't do it where it could be a detriment to others.

Bee safe, have fun, and if you are in the area, enjoy the new snow.

A person has to be amazed at the state of the economy and the number of dealers that are sold out. now is this due to dealers just not ordering as many? I dont know the answer to that, but I do know the 2 dealers I do the most business with, 1 has completly sold out and the other has 2 sleds left.

But yes it is silly that the companies keep building them bigger and faster. How fast do we really need to go??

I mean most places you go, after 80 you cant see where your going and there really isnt a need to go that fast on a sled.

I had the speedo on mine up to 100 last weekend and I gotta tell you, there is no need to go that fast as a consumer. I understand the draggers need more, but really a normal person doesnt need that kind of speed.

the other thing I would like to know, is in all of the accidents, what was the percentage of those that involved drinking?

None that I know of had to do with drinking, just speed and lack of experience. I don't believe that manufacturers should stop building better and more powerful sleds, I just feel that novice rides shouldn't go off to buy there first sled and get a 800 Dragon. I'm sorry but a little 340 is more power the any starting rider needs. I mean, You wouldn't buy you 16 year old kid a 911 turbo would you?

Our area has actually had less accidents this year, and more sledders. I was pointed out in one of the articles I read this afternoon.

Guy on the ice got "separated from his sled" and apparently left the marked trail. Nothing to do with speed... I'm guessing there was another factor.

Every morning while eating breakfast, I read the "In the News" section of the SF Homepage. I read these not only to think of the family strife which is caused by these accidents, but I also learn from them. I realize that I have done these same things that these guys have done before, but I got lucky. Makes me more aware of my surroundings when I ride. Don't want you guys reading about me.

I totally agree with this, This whole last week i was in deadwood SD riding the trails daily, we have gone to SD every year to ride and its become more and more popular down there, this past year it was ridiculous the amount of riders were out, not only did we come apon many other riders, We also were forced to run into the most pricks i have ever seen, people just dont respect trail riding sometimes, i saw more mountain sleds then trail sleds there, literally groups of 8 riders would just pass you on the trail while you were doing +40MPH and force you to slow down and let them pass!!! it became annoying to the point i wanted to just run my $500 sled into a $10,000 sled and to let them know I AM ALSO RIDING THIS TRAIL!! People who have no respect for the sport or the riders in it should not be on a machine that allows them to things like that
