I am really struggling with it right now and was wondering if anyone had a"easy" way of learning it.

Thanks

I learned it in my Microsoft classes. Had a good teacher who explained it really well in laymans terms. I had to read Binary Coded Octal to work on the old computers in the Navy so Binary is easy for me.

Sorry but I couldn't begin to explain it via the web or email. If you has a how-to question maybe.

practice, practice, practice lol, i learned it in my NET+, MCSA, and CISCO classes, but have forgot most of it due to subnetting calculators. any particular part you are having problems with or just over all? like jerkyking said its kinda hard to explain over the net, find someone in your class that knows it and have them explain it, maybe their presentation method will be more in tune to your learning style.

I would ask my teacher to explain it to me, but he is worthless and lazy (money well spent)

I would rather use the calculator as you said, but thats not really an option because i still need to know how to do it for my tests. I have tried to teach myself by searching for it on the net and as you two said it hard to understand it over the net.

i haven't tested for the NET+ yet so im gonna be screwed lol its only been 3+ years since the class. that sucks that your teacher is not helpful, i know what its like to have someone that only knows how to read from a book and has no real world experience.i was lucky though, my Microsoft and cisco teacher was the chair of technology for the college system, he knew his stuff and has worked in the field before so he could share that also.

like i said, hit up a classmate that has a solid understanding of it and have them re-explain it to ya in a differnt way, once you figure it our and do it a dozen times you will think its easy.

I went to MTI, I liked it. You moving to Mitchell I assume?

They have Cisco CCNA 1-4 there so you're covered. Kelvin Albertz teaches that class, he knows his Cisco well, plus you get alot of hands-on time.

I am moving to Mitchell probably early August. I am going to live just North of the campus with a buddy.

I have taken Cisco CCNA 1 and 2 so far but my teacher is less than average. We dont do anything in that class and its hard to get any hands on time because of that.

I hope i like MTI better than i like STI.

^^ watch fleebay for a older cisco router and start teaching yourself. i borrowed a 2650 router and 3650 switch from my college and played with them for about 2 months and learned a ton. kinda fun seeing the 2650 compared to my little buffalo with synthetic benchmarks.

Do it via binary in the beginning to get the hang of it. Then just use http://www.subnet-calculator.com/cidr.php

Class A, B, and C are not really relevant nowadays. Just refer to them by the mask bits (/8, /16, /24).
