Grab on and push/work the belt around the secondary clutch. It is easier if the track is off the ground so it can free wheel. It's the only way I've ever removed the belts from my Cats.

    Removal:
    1. Grasp the driven pulley movable sheave (inner) and push against it while rotating clockwise.
    2. when the sheaves are fully apart, hold movable sheave, pull up on drive belt, and roll belt over stationary sheave until it is free of the driven pulley. slowly release the movable sheave.
    3. remove belt from drive clutch.

    To install:
    1. place belt so the part number can be read (from beside the sled) between the sheaves of the drive clutch.
    2. grasp the driven pulley movable sheave and push against it while rotating it clockwise.
    3. when the sheaves are fully apart, hold movable sheave, roll the belt over the stationary sheave, and slowly release the movable sheave.

Might just be me, but on some models...like mine, (02 xcsp edge and 03 firecat). Grasping that inner sheave on the secondary with enough grip to open it while the belt is on, is nearly impossible.
Maybe the 99 ZL is more accessible.

If that is the wrong size belt and you or anyone else has no use for it, then cut it if it won't come off. (Don't try this unless all else has failed)

Using the belt a bit to let it get warm and stretch helps a bit too.

Get the track off the ground, then grab on and strong arm it off in reverse.
