mach 1 running wide open with thottle released!?!?!?!?!?

I've cleaned the rave valves and carbs. The sled hasn't been started for over a year so I replaced gas and changed plugs. Then I started the sled with hood and air box off and it ran perfect. Then I put them back on and as soon as I start the sled it runs at wide open throttle. Would having your rave valves upside down cause this or could gas be getting sucked through the primer? If you have any ideas it would be much appreciated.
