I just got back from Madeline Island, I have to say the biological diversity at that location mas truly stunning. A mycologist and lichenologist along with Mark Leach our ecology professor and a few students including myself went along. The park ranger also stayed the the two days with us so we fortunately had an expert guide. I have to truly admire the mycologist and the lichenologist because the utter complexity of the organisms they study is truly infinite. It got fairly cold, I am unsure of the exact temperature however it did frost. We also went up to the pine barrens and saw several more species of both lichen and fungus. Although this is not the emphasis I am majoring in (and probably would not want to), I truly have to admire what they do.
