Glacier National Park
Posted November 1st 2008

I just returned from a trip from Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park aka Glacier National Park and it had to be the most incredible hiking experience of my life. As we went in October and at those altitudes snow was often falling in the morning and was usually cleared off by the afternoon so technically speaking we were able to see the mountains in 2 seasons in as many days! It was unfortunate that we were only able to stay for 3 days and that the Going to the Sun highway was closed, however, it was still spectacular. It took a greater level of thought to imagine the entire landscape covered in thousands of feet of ice with all but the highest peaks exposed. The geology of the area is incredible on both macro and micro scales; be it either the incredible blue shale beneath your feet to the hanging glacier valley in the distance. If you are interested in just looking for a good hike with the most amazing scenery you will see anywhere or whether you want to see one of the most geologically unique places in North America, I cannot recommend GNP enough.
