2002 Ski-doo 700 Grand Touring Question

HELP!!!! I have a 2002 Skidoo 700 GT with only 500 miles on it and the coolant tank blew a hole in the side of it. I was riding around in the yard with the kids and I heard a big puff sound and steam blew everywhere. I have no problems replacing it, but I'm wondering if anyone knows what might have caused it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks.
