Yammie hard on fuel

i bought a 1995 yamaha vmax 600 dx this year, i only get 80kms to a 40 litre tank, when my buddies ( riding ski-doos) are getting 150 kms. i've heard yammies are hard on fuel, but this bad...i don't think so, something is up! can anyone help?
