Interest in Snowmobile Race for 2010 St. Paul Winter Carnival??

Let me introduce myself. I have been active with the St. Paul Winter Carnival for the last 10 years. I had an idea of resurrecting the old 500 mile snowmobile race from Winnipeg to St. Paul. However, in this day and age, it might be impossible given all the legal and insurance related issues that would arise. I thought about something smaller and am looking for ideas, imput, suggestions, or comments. I would be in position to assist in finding some sponsorship money and could arrange for publicity for the event.
I currently work part-time for the St. Paul Festival and Heritage Foundation and would assist in getting volunteers for the event. If we can pull this off, I need to get busy organizing it.
