    Hot exhaust!

ok heres the deal. I couple years ago I got my hands on an SLP can for my prox, swapped the kid my stock muffler for it cuz he was going to Canada and didn't want probs with noise up there. I didn't like it after 1 ride cuz of the noise, shouldve seen it coming. So I sold it and got a stock muffler off a 550 touring that was blown up...go figure, same part# as my 600 except the 550 uses a donut where the pipe mounts. I poped out the donut and saw a few rust pin holes so quick fix with some left over furnace door hitemp rope. Fire it up and it seemed louder than I remember stock. Last Friday my right foot was getting HOT really hot, chalked it up to the exhaust. I notice today my boot tread is friggin melted. Fired her up went for a blast with key in regular position, checked the plugs and its burning perfect so its not a lean condition. question is do you think the muffler is burned out inside? or the exhaust isn't goin into the muffler and blowing somewhere it not supposed to be inside? BTW the muffler isn't touching the footwell area and didn't melt any plastic in surrounding area, kinda was dreading seeing melted plastic but got lucky somehow. Any thoughts

sounds like it could be partially plugged and creating excess heat because the exhaust isn't escaping fast enough
