I just bought a 2000 polaris trail touring with 7000 miles. It will be used for ice fishing and mostly cruising speeds. It has mechanical reverse. The pull start rope was broke so I didn't try to fire it up yet.
I am brand new to snowmobiles but mechanically inclined. I worked on cars mostly.
I would like to know if these 550 fan cooled engines are the same as the 2004-2007 550 fan cooled engines?
What reputable rebuild kits are out there?
What are some ways that I could increase the reliability of the sled?
Any downloadable shop manual around?
It has mechanical reverse. Some people say that is not really a good thing? Does it have to do with the oil pump no lubricating in reverse?
I thank you in advance. 🙂
