In the process of rebuilding the engine (engine will be for sale once it's running) and have some questions. Mostly what in the hell are the setting for the adjustable timing? I understand what it does, I guess I'm just looking for a chart or something, like setting A needs this fuel and that head used for X. Setting B needs that fuel and blah blah.

Secondly, I can't find anything but Wiseco pistons. I'd rather use SPI, I haven't had much luck with Wiseco in the sleds in the past.

Lastly, I need a jug and trail head for it also. Will a trail head off of a later Pro X 440 work? Or is it XCR specific? Are pistons interchangable?

Thanks for the help, I'll post up some pics of my "barn find" when I get a minute!

sounds like you got a pro x motor if you have the adjustable timing box........

Hello all, I bought a 98 xcr 440 for my son last winter to trail ride. I know they are very finicky and purpose built race sleds, but if there is anything I can do to make it a little more trail friendly I am up for anything. I was thinking a carb upgrade of some sort. Maybe a a set of rack style flat slide off a 500. Not sure. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If any of my Canadian Friends are planning on parting out a 1997 or 1998 XCR 440, I could use an ownership. Thanks

There's TONS of info on this thread about carb tuning, its all there you just gotta read (yes it will take time and use the search function within the thread). You can get the stock carbs setup to work even better (stable jetting) with a Tempaflow.

Just Picked up this almost parts 98!

    The Bad
    No engine
Seat is from a 96 and ripped
No gas, coolant or oil tank
    Wire Harness is burned
    No carbs

    The good
    800 Mile sled
Tunnel, belly look like new - Running boards straight as an arrow and all the black paint is on
Front shocks are nice and "gold"
    Skis are really nice
Rear suspension and track is very good
    Good is good
Got airbox, exhaust and two brand new Polaris belts
    New set of Vforece reeds
Best part about it I got all the VES parts...Super cool score on those parts.
    CDI

Planning on getting as much used Indy parts to make her run again. Lucky I have an attic full of parts...Complete Engine with carbs ready to rock....Decent seat and nice clear tank....Extra nose cone to

Should clean up real nice and make a good rider for someone in this winter.

Anyone near the Twin Cities in MN need parts let me know..Or if you are interested in this machine as is or later when she is running let me know

    Enjoy

Will post progress pics as I work on her.
