Bought a '82 SS 440 for my son a few years back, the thing rocked. Would hold the skis up forever. Parked it and bought a 93 XLT because we did a compression test on it and it was low. That was before we knew much about sleds. So, I think it just needs rings. It has been in the back corner of the pole barn for a few years and we have been told by a few people that this sled is worth some money. Anyone know anything about these?

Well, blue with grey I guess, as opposed to grey with blue I suppose...huh !? Except when it has the yellow hood on. Whoa ! I gotta go to sleep. [Comp2]

Yea, it's a good one IMO, lot's of spare parts and an extra hood. Maybe I'll sell it or make it into a Go-Kart or something. O, wouldn't that be cool. My Grandkids would think I was nuts even more. "Gampa's nuts" (Gma taught them that.)

on the ss 440's the block is 2 pieces and there is an o-ring that keeps the compression in both cylenders and that seal goes out and it looses compression a way to fix that is get new rings and take the block out and take it apart and replace the seal.

I think I have one just like that. but the rings are frozen to the cylinder walls.

I have an '85 SS440. In great condition, only thing bad is the windshield coming off, so there's a load of black duct tape.

But you can get the skis lifted up? I've tried everything and still have never been able to.
