My friend and i have a 1972 polaris tx500 limited that we resored and repainted . it was running very nice until we blew it up. does anyone know where I could get a cylinder and piston? or is it possible to use pistons from a tx 340 and bore it over?

What exactly happened when you "blew it up"? Snap the crank, score a cylinder, etc?

On something that old it's really hard to fund stuff. You'd most likely be better off fixing what's wrong than trying to replace.

parts from a 340 will not work in a 500

It got to hot and burned the piston around the edges down to the first ring and the ring broke and scored the cylinder bad. clutch side piston.

not sure about a 72 tx 500 but the 75 tx 500 shared some common parts off its 340 brother so gaskets, pistons are the same. not all 340 parts just ones from 75 on
