just a question, why does the ultra sonic look so much like the blizzard of that time??

Because Moto-Ski was a division of Ski-Doo.
It was identical to the Blizzard, except for the color scheme and sticker's. All part's are interchangeable between the two sled's.

The 5500 fan cooled is the same chassis. Ski doo stamped the pans and weld plates over the heat exchanger outlets as there was no need for the 503 motor. Guys have been known to reuse a fan cooled chassis and install heat exchangers thru the factory holes.

That is a sick sled for sale in the auction it looks like it was not beat up. Worse thing about all those chassis are they have weak stamped steel construction for the bellypan. Any type of riding hard over time would ruin these tin can spot welded tubs. Why ski doo did not use aluminum or glass on the later stock 5500 7500 9500 blizzards is beyond me [?] The power of these sleds can really wreak havoc on the engine cradle area. I found that DOO actually made some improvements over the 79 model as they added a little extra steel in the engine cradle area making it harder to get to the steering tie rods off the handlebars, but at least if you romped it you wouldn't tear the motor out of the chassis.

Now if they put the 454 rotax into a TXL chassis That would be a neat mod sled.[;)]



I have a 79 super sonic which is a ditch beater but the 340 LQ puts out a solid 70 horse. The type 354 motor is considered by some as the the most powerful production motor in terms of HP per CC.
Too bad no one is stamping belly pans for these yet. The sides are usually all beat up and torn where the steering spindles and arms make contact with the sides of the sled.

Just trying to have fun with sleds as it is 50 and raining all weekend. Love the site

ok the nheres my question, i had a chance at buying a 81 ski doo blizzard 9500, and it looked identical to that, except it said ski-doo, but werent the doos red or yellow? I think he was trying to sell me a moto ski with doo decals?!? is thta possible?

Sorry not sure what year skidoo did a red hood on their liquid blizzards? but ski doo changed up their color schemes from year to year
I want to say 83 9500 was red

Or maybe it was a red 9700 which would be way cool sled to get ahold of - a leafspring with a RAVE motor that thing was a killer!!!

I am no expert on these machines, and I wish knew more about them.

the '79 9500 7500 and 5500 blizzards were black.
the 1980 9500 blizzard was yellow/black, the 7500 was black/silver and the 5500 was black/silver.
1981 9500 was red/black, the 7500 was black/red. the 5500 and MX was yellow
the 1982 9500 was black/yellow the 5500 and MX was yellow. the 7500 Blizzard was gone for 1982.
in 1983 the 9500 Blizzard was gone from bombardiers lineup. released inplace was the '83 and '84 9700 blizzard which was black with small bits of orange and yellow striping.

the motoski equivilant to the blizzards were:
9500 blizzard= Motoski Ultrasonic
7500 blizzard= Motoski Supersonic
5500 blizzard= Motoski GPS, Grand prix Special

saw that sled the other day .. i love those sonics..im always looking for a cheap (sub 1000.00) srx or ultra sonic..old muscle sleds never die

This was an 80 Doo Blizzard 7500, Black hood with yellow panel's and orange pinstripes. Now it just part's for sale, cause the tin belly pan was garbage.

Good info to know snoeproe.

What would you offer a guy that has had a 9500 listed in the local paper for at least a year, with a 9700 motor fresh topend stong runner weak chassis rotted BAD. What the heck would be a good chassis to stuff the 521 in?
