hey guys i am quite confused about clutching, i have a very hard time wrapping my brain around it so i figured this is a good place to come

my question is: my phazer(1991 Phazer II 480) the primary is just spinning inside the belt,

Itll move the track if the sled is lifted, and has no load until about 5500 rpms then itll just spin and the clutch and i dont think the clutch is closing. If the sled is on the ground itll try to pull then just stop and spin and spin and spin until it burns the belt

Someone suggested just a good cleaning might fixit others have said the primary spring is weak, i just changed the secondary clutched with a new used one b/c the sled was lurching. It looked worn, so for 25.00 we picked up a new one, now however we think it mightve just been the primary going... any comments?

The belt was good and had re-indexed
If im not being clear enough just ask ill try to elaborate or explain more.

What do you mean by lurching? Have you replaced the belt?
