just purchased a 92 rxl 650 efi when i turn the key on all i hear is the first relay click and thats it theres no voltage going to the fuel pump i see no lites nothing there are 2 more relays that are blue and they seem to do nothing when the key is turned on what should happen when the key is turned on and r there fuses some where that could be blown should the trouble lite come on the ecu or should it just not lite at all cause there is no lite there either there are 3 relays from left to right first is red the other 2 are blue what do they go to?anyy help would be great!

charge the battery all the way up. if its not the battery turn the ignition on and jump it at the starter and see if it turns over. tons of guys on here that should be able to help with this. u say no voltage to fuel pump. do you know for sure there is no voltage. use a ohm meter and see if you have voltage.
yes ive tested the pump leads with a volt meter! the battery has a full charge. the guy i purchased it from said he was ridding it last year it quit on him and could not start it. he said when u turn the key on u use to hear the pump run and now u dont. i baught it the way it was and havent had time to look at it but for a few seconds. he did say it would start on either!! but im not keen on spraying that in any two stroke motor so im going after the problem.
ok i went out and checked this thing out! found a wire busted off this thing that looks like a swich? its next to the key and has or did have a rubber small knob, what the heck is it? i soldered the wire back on,and the pump ran for a second or two then quit. is this rite? i took this swich or what ever it is out and started trying to push it like a swich. if it is a swich its not rite. but the pump would come on for a few of the time but, would shut off. so i tryed to start it. i pull to start it, it barks, and wants to run but wont and i hear the pump run and shut off is this correct or should the pump run constant?
That is how it is supposed to be... It runs to build up pressure then shuts off.

Change the plugs and put fresh fuel in it, it should fire..
ok if thats rite then it should run but what the heck is that button thing next to the key and if it is a switch whats it for? and can i just bypass it and connect the two wires together till i can find another? and i took the exaust can out so that i could get to the battery area and also to look around at the wiring! would think it will start with that off but who knows? also if there was something wrong with the ecu would it blink a code when the key was turned on? i see where it would blink but nothing is so can i asume nothing is wrong there?

The button, they call a "primer" all it does is break the power and reset the ECU. On really cold days if you push the button it can help the sled start. If you push it when the motor is warm, it can flood it out. You can bypass it safely.

Yes, the light by the big plug is for blinking error codes. If there's no error codes flashing that doesn't mean everything is perfect, it just means that there's nothing wrong that it can detect.. (the computer is pretty basic)

If you want to see if it's working right, then you can test it by unplugging the sensor that's mounted to the airbox. It will flash the 13 error code (1 long then 3 short blinks), like in this video I made..

ok ,got home from work and put new plugs in this thing, and started pulling was always trying to start! till the girl freind came out and i ask her to give it a lttle throttle wile i pulled it over, and whamm it started rite up and ran great then with the exaust can off i reved it up a little it snapped rite up there but antifreez was spraying from the exaust! not good so i tore the cylender off and am going to get a gasket set ordered tomorrow. will get back with ya on it but i think im good to go! it sounded as if it will rip!! and wow cast iron sleeves in this thing may just get it bored and order some pistons for it but i see i can only go 1.00 any bigger and the case will have to be bored but shoot thats good enough!
{update} just put new pistons rings and gasket set on top end fired it up took about 4 pulls to start seems the idal was low cause i had to hold the throttle just a bit to start but i adjusted the idal screw and now its good to go just need some SNOW!! do have two more question on this efi sled whats the best way to keep the battery up to snuff with out disconnecting it when not in use should i put a toggel switch in line with the positive battery feed or is there something else i can do? also i see that there are some performance chips avalible for this some have a dial from a 15 hp increase to a 30 hp can this work on this sled and do they work as advertised?
Those "performance chips" on ebay aren't a chip, they're only a resistor. Whst they do, is fool the computer into thinking that the air temp is warmer, and leaning out the fuel mixture. This in turn gives you a few HP, but then toasts your motor at some point, from running too lean.

If you keep the toggle switch on there, you should only use it with the sled key turned off.. It's not intended for high draw and using it with the sled key on, especially with the motor running, it'll arc the switch, and eventually fuse it either open or closed.

What else you can do to keep the voltage up, is to keep a trickle charger on the battery. You can even get a small one and permanently mount it in the sled, and just tuck the cord in the nose of the sled when you're riding.

However, if the battery is getting drained between uses, then you have another problem. Either one of your relays is not turning off, or you have an issue with your ECU.

I haven't had a chance to use this sled yet but I've heard they do drain when hooked up and not in use but maybee I've heard wrong but a trickel charge might be the trick I thought about it and looked for one but myers and kmart don't sell them so I'm looking for one. I guess ill leave the varible chip alone thanks for all the help! i like this sled it looks great and runs great cant wait tio ride it!
First off, congrats on getting your RXL running. I am also an owner of a 92 RXL. I believe you will find it to be a good sled. The EFI systems have gotten a bad reputation by some who do not understand them or didnt take care of them. The 2 biggest things you need to do are make sure it has a fully charged battery at all times and keep all the connections in the wiring harness in good condition. I too had to solve a few problems when I first got mine but once I did it has been fine since. It really is fun to go out and smoke newer and supposedly faster sleds with one that is old enough to vote ! LOL
question about a trickle charger i got one that is a diehard 2 amp. that when the battery is fully charged it goes into a mode that is called maintencne mode, then if voltage drops belowe it goes back to charge. is this what i need for this sled? will it dry the battery out if i leave it hooked up for long times? ya know i have a few bikes and never needed a trickle charger for any of them. my 2008 harley just starts rite up sence i baught it never had a problem with the battery.and im not sure that there is any thing going on with this sleds battery. i just want to play it safe and when i go to use this sled i want to go! do u leave yours on a trickle charger?
No, I don't leave my sled on a trickle charger, but I do charge the battery while tinkering with the fuel maps.

Yes, teh type of charger you're talking about is the correct type of charger to use for what you're wanting to do.

You will love your RXL if ya take the time to do simple maintance on it. Mine is a 95 and i love the damn thing. Gotta put a new front bumper(fence post) on mine, but she runs like a raped ape. Good luck and enjoy the 650!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yea i think i will like it! it runs great after a top end rebuild! i left the charger off of it for three days and gave it a shoot battery seems to be charged, so i must be ok! this sled is clean. seat is perfect, hood is in great shape. the back bumper is bent looks like it was out front, and the loser ran in the back of it! my single complaint would be that this sled is heavy! i bought this sled for my girl friend hope she likes it when im not on it lol
Hey guys Im new at this and i like all the info everyone has to offer. I was just givin two snowmobiles 92 delux and a rxl sks 650. All i needed was a battery and some gas hoses and they started right up. But my sks 650 is cutting out in higher rpms. What might be some problems?

yea know there could be a number of things wrong with it, but just to start the first thing is compression, does it have good compression.you need good compression to get good top end speed! also you said u changed the fuel lines. well did you change the filters, and in the tank there is a fuel line with a filter on the end of it. alot of times this hose from age will crack, or brake, also check for lose or caroaded terminals. this sled has alot of wireing in it. i have been into that a bit.
you need to check them things out, and if none of them are bad then it must be an injector issue. im not an expert on this sled yet so im not sure what to tell ya on that maybee some injector cleaner but i would check on that sence these sleds are 2 stroke and not sure if this would cause cylender damage or not any way good luck on this and could u please keep me posted on what you find?

that is a button to make the fuel pump run kinda like a primer
