1993 Polaris Indy Trail Classic - Overheating

2136 Views 6 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  jbjbjb4
As previously posted, problem is engine runs very hot or overheats while riding in hard packed snow. I have bled cooling system. Just not enough snow on heat exchangers. I was told about some kind of "snow scratcher" I cannot find any info on this! Someone else mentioned about a auxillary heat exchanger for the rear of the tunnell. I cannot find any info on that either! Thanks for the help in advance!!
Do other brands of snowmobiles have this problem??

I am not sure what to make of this, as all Indy Trail's are fan cooled sleds.

I wonder if you mean the Classic Touring and not the Trail? The Classic is liquid.
If its a liquid cooled machine and its running hot on hardpack you need Ice scratchers. Any Mountain performance dealer should be able to get you what you need...They are a unit that bolt to the track rails and drag on the snow to "scratch" the hardpack and throw it up onto the coolers...They can be locked up out of the way when you run in heavy powder conditions.
ive seen those scratchers, and i think they mount on your front skis on the trough bolt that connects the ski to the spindle, i will see if i can find where i saw this in my vast assortment of aftermarket parts books, such a shame all these books, but no snow----ouch it hurts
I've never seen a set for the spindles just the rails but the spindle scratcher sounds like a good Idea I'm curious to know what you find out about them.

That is what I was thinking. My dad has two of these machines and has never had a problem with them over heating. They just get even more gutless in the warm weather.<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>Originally posted by Polaris-Man:
