Mine is revving about 8500rpm. Is that ok, or should I do some clutch work to bring it back down??

i think that you will be jsut fine at that, I think tha my old manual said that the 2000 xcsp was like 8500+/- 200... but my mind is a bit foggy.

I thought the 99 EDGE was the little 440 on steroids that had a really high max rpm....like 9000???

Yes..but I must be an idiot and wrong. I know you have to run that sled over 8500rpm at least.

the 99 edge sled could pull great mph on ice at 8200 rpm. but it was very hard to trail ride at that rpm. it was a lot better animal at 8500 rpm. the 98 could be setup for 8000-8300 and see little change in performance. but the newer motors are way more sensitive to jetting/clutching changes.
