Yes.
You will have to unbolt the trailing arms, where they bolt into the foot rest.
drill the rivits out that you can get to, and use an air chissle and knock off the backside of the ones you cant get to with the drill.
at least thats how I did my ol' 98 xc a few years back.

cool, i was looking and it looked like i would be able to manage the rivets and a friend said i had to pull the motor
