have a 2002 zr 500 and have noticed front track shock seems too soft. have seen complaints on other forums so don't think i am only one. is there a fix i have noticed that 2002 piston orifices are larger than 2001 and shim stacks appear to be same. any help or ideas would be appreciated.
You aren't going to want the fronts shocks too stiff cause if you snag a moguls, there is no give and you go head-over-handlebars.

Cats come from the factory with the front track shock set pretty low. My ZL had pretty much no preload on the shock. So I cranked her up a little, about 3/8 of the total threads showing now. I have really been bottoming out last year, and just disentegrating those rubber stops on teh rails, and so far this season it has been all good. Not too much kick from the front, but enough to resist bottoming now. But I did notice now that increasing the preload has taken some ski pressure away. So I have increase the ski shock preload. The package is much more balanced now, but I may start messing with the limiter strap to get my ski pressure back that way.
Any help, check your Cat maual, they do a decent job of explaining what to do. If you still need help, just post here... We can help!
