Been looking around and notice some people have put 700 cylinders on 600 block. I have some questions that I seem to not be able to find.

Will it be a huge different for the money or will I be wasting time?

Is this an easy project to do? Can the average back yard person be able to or is there specile tools or equipment needed?

Can some one tell me everything I would need to trasfer the 700 cylinders to 600 block?

I will start from there. Like I said I know a little to the answer of these question but I want more lol

To do the 6 to 700 conversion,you will need the following parts:

Cylinders
Pistons
Head and water cover
CDI
New cylinder base gaskets

It is not a difficult job to perform,just needs to be done in a careful and smart fashion,following the correct patterns for torquing the head and cylinders down,and making sure the case surface is clean of the old base gaskets,you can get all the help you need here if you end up getting the parts to do the swap,and it gains a solid 12-14 HP by doing it.

So basically it's a top end rebuild with a CDI replacement, just reassembling with a 700 top end..

A couple hours with the right parts on hand. Not bad.

Thank you guys. Is it worth it or should I put money into something else?

I should be able to find cheap parts. Mostly used.

One more thing whats my year range for 700 to fit the 600 block of a 1998

97-2000,all 97 sks,Rmk and limited build XC 700's came with the 220 cylinders,and also snow check 98's,otherwise they will be the 824 jugs,asking if it is worth it is a matter of opinion,the 6 is a solid performer,the 7 is obviously the next step up,it is just a matter of finding the right deal on the parts do do the conversion,it could get pricey fast,if you chose to go with new replated jugs,($200 ea),SPI aftermarket pistons (about $60-70 each) a used head ($40-50) CDI ($(150) base gaskets ($20)do the math and you will find that for that kind of $$$ you could potentially find a complete used 700 motor to just drop in,so basically what I'm saying is that there is more than one way to skin the cat so to speak,you can offset the cost of the 700 parts by selling off the 600 top end and CDI,also I did not mention in my first reply that there will be minor carb and clutching adjustments needed,I can get you started with your parts,if interested I have a used Hot Seat Performance 700 billet head for sale in the parts section.....Decisions Decisions....lol.

We have a local used snowmobile parts shop with lots of parts so I am going to be trying to use used parts or like u said buy a whole engine then sell what I don't use. What jug size would give me more performance? What's the difference? It's got to be non ves since my 600 is non ves right?

Never mind about the jugs I find a post 99700xc that u posted before and explain well to me. For that decision I am just going to go with what ever is available.

I sold my 600 since it needed the crank gone through and picked up a 700 with 1k miles on it for less than it cost to do the rebuild on the 600. Also the carb jetting was the same between the two except for the 600 had larger pilots which I swapped into the 700.

Skiroulertx447 what are you saying buy a 700 and but it in the 600 body? my 600 engine is fine just thought i would do a little cool project before the winter comes

Depending on how cheap you can find 700 jugs and pistons it may be more economical to buy a complete 700 and sell the 600.

IMO the best way to do this is find a wrecked/beat up xc/rmk/sks700 which are easly found and CHEAP! pull the engine, clutches carbs and cdi for your sled and part the rest out.


I did this with a 02 rmk, paid $1k for it with a wrecked front end, sold parts making about $1400 and still have the compleat ves 700...

Just my .02

Thats what i am going to look for. I have found that its cheeper to buy whole sled then parts or even whole motor.

are you sure you have to change the cdi? the 700s and 600s have the same timing as long as theyre the same year, because all that changes beteen the 6 and 700s is their bore, i have a 99 600 with the cdi from a 700 on it, runs perfectly.

You are replying to a 7 year thread.
That said, the part numbers for the CDIs are different, so there will be a difference between the 600 and 700 CDI, though it might be small.
