im looking at buying a 1979 yamaha srx. my question is how much horsepower does this year have compared to previous years. i know that they detuned them because they were being used as a trail sled and 98 horse was to much. i also know that in 77 they changed the frame from a heavy material to a lighter one. also would it be able to beat my friends indy 500 across a lake. if you have read a lot of my post before you would see that i will sacrifice anything except money for speed.

it may beat your buds 500 indy across the lake, depends on how far.
it will for sure beat your bud in a 500-600 foot drag race.

77 440 8F2

My friends indy 500 is a 2 up so its heavier than heck. i would have thought it would have been the exact opposite, that the indy would have beaten it to 500-600 feet then the srx would have owened across the lake. thanks for all the information.

i know but what i was refering to was that im not going to invest 1000 dollars to gain a couple horses. i would wrather buy a sled that has 85 horse for 1000 dollars than buy a sled with 55 horse for 500 dollars and invest 750 for only 25 horse gain, and still be losing in the horsepower game.
