I have been working on this indy 500 for quite some time and cant get it to run. It runs when I dump gas down the carb so its not sucking gas.I checked all the lines made sure they were hooked up and checked that they were clear without blockage.I think it might be the fuel pump or a clogged jet and the carbs need to be cleaned. Any ideas on what it might be?

Start by cleaning the carbs good, inspect fuel pump after that.

check the pto crank seal, if it is blown out, the fuel pump wont pump.

How full is the gas tank? I'm guessing the fuel pick up line is rotted off. When the tube rots off inside the gas tank, whenever the gas level drops below the fitting, gas doesn't get to the engine. Either check the tube right away, or fill the tank to the top and try to start.
The only other two things that would be the problem is the fuel pump, or the gas valve is turned off[11doh]
